Taylor deserved her moment. + Vampire Diaries

Posted on Monday, September 14, 2009 by LuciLikeWhoa

In this post there are two main things I am going to talk about.

1. The Vampire Diaries and
2. The 2009 MTV VMAs
Number 1: The Vampire Diaries.
Thing back to some of my earlier posts, Do great minds think alike? and Vampire Diaries: Revisited. In these posts I discussed a series called The Vampire Diaries and how it was being adapted for television. Well the Pilot premiered last Thursday on the CW Network and yes, the Twilight comparisons have begun. One insane person was quoted as saying, "omg, is this Vampire Diaries ripping off Twilight? I mean seriously the main girl is exactly like Bella!" If anything Twilight is ripping of Vampire Diaries. If this person thinks that The Vampire Diaries are ripping off Twilight, wait until they discover that Tyler's a werewolf.
Number 2: 2009 MTV VMAs
By now you have probably heard about Kanye West's little out burst at the VMAs, and if you haven't you can watch it here. Taylor Swift won the award for best female video, beating out the likes of P!NK, Katy Perry and Beyonce-who was nominated for single ladies. Taylor's moment comes and she gets on stage to begin her speech and all of a sudden Kanye comes running on stage saying that Taylor doesn't deserve the award and that Beyonce should have gotten it. What was wrong with him!? Taylor had worked very hard for that award, and deserved to have her moment. Beyonce later, won for music video of the year and in her speech she reflected upon her first VMA. She stated that when she was 17 years old and up for a MTV award with Destiny's Child, how it was one of the exciting moments in her life. She then, being the gracious lady that she is, asked Taylor to come out and have her moment. (Watch video here). Taylor Swift is a very talented artist and deserved to have her 30 seconds and I think everyone can agree that Kanye is a douche.
On a different topic, what the hell was Lady (Sir) Gaga wearing!?

Another Adaption...yay?

It has come to my attention that another series I like is being turned into a movie. Uglies by Scott Westerfeld has been optioned for a movie and although at this stage there is no new news about the project, I am eager to see how it will turn out. (To find out more follow this blog link.) I think Scott has approached this in a great way, by asking the fans what they want to see in the movie. Of course there are the basics like stay as close to the storyline as possible, but there are also requests for unknown actors and actress for the major roles of Tally, Shay, David, Zane-la and for the use of the special affects to look real. I think if they can pull it off while keeping to the story it would be an amazing movie. Perhaps I will make a cast video, and I will be sure to put it up here! Well thats all for this blog. Fingers crossed for the movie!

Blood Promise review.

Posted on Thursday, August 27, 2009 by LuciLikeWhoa

SPOILERS! From the minute I picked it up I couldn't put it down. Blood Promise is the long awaited fourth book in Richelle Mead's brilliant series, Vampire Academy. We begin in Russia where Rose is still looking for her now Strigoi boyfriend Dimitri Belikov. Her mission is simple: find him and kill him. But Rose is struggling, having never been to Russia and only going off what Dimitri has told her about his life in Russia, she keeps arriving at dead ends. It isn't until she meets Sydney, a human who knows about the Vampire world, when Rose really makes a break through. Sydney is an Alchemist, a human who has been trained to assists the Guardians in covering up their Strigoi kills. After a few phone calls, Sydney agrees to take Rose to Dimitri's home town- Omsk. However, back home Lissa is struggling. She worries about Rose a lot and is not doing well in her one-on-one classes with Adrian. Although new comer, Avery Lazar helps her overcome these issues-through a haze of alcohol. After being attacked by Strigoi and evoking her weird ghost power, Rose wakes up in a house in Baia. But this isn't just any old house, this Olena Belikova's house- Dimitri's mother. Rose spends about a month with the Belikovs, she tells them of his heroic death and they come to the realisation the Rose and Dimitri were together. Yeva, Dimitri's grandmother takes Rose on an outing to the house of Mark and Oskana. Where Rose discovers that she and Lissa are not alone in the Shadow kissed world. Rose then decides to leave the Belikovs and go off and hunt for Dimitri, with the help of some rouge Strigoi hunters. She succeeds but forgets rule number 1: Don't Hesitate. So now she is locked up in a room that looks more like a hotel and the daily visits from the Strigoi Dimitri are not helping. After finally clearing her head Rose manages to escape. Though she doesn't get far, when she reaches the bridge-which happens to be my favorite scene- Dimitri is there to confront her, but when the time comes will she be able to kill him? Blood Promise is a fantastic follow up to Shadow Kiss and I can not wait for the release of Spirit Bound in 2010.

Orphan: WTF

Posted on Monday, August 24, 2009 by LuciLikeWhoa

Spoiler Alert! When I first saw the trailer for this movie I was excited. I absolutely love horror movies and from the trailer, Orphan directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, looked like a decent horror movie. But sadly if wasn't. It took a long time for the movie to really start, the first half was insanely boring. When Esther, played by Isabelle Fuhrman, began killing people the movie really began. The killing scenes were brutally awesome, the goriness made you squirm in your seat. As the story unraveled, you begin to wonder who or what Esther is and let me tell you that the twist is not what you expect. I would have love it if Esther turned out to be some ghost with a hunger for revenge but no. The tagline for this movie is "There's Something Wrong With Esther," however I disagree. I think the tagline should have been, "There's Something Wrong With Our Writer." Because the twist at the end is so sickining, it makes you want to throw up! Apparently, someone thought it would be a great idea if Esther turned out to be a 33 year old-midget-virgin-serial killer that pretends to be a child so that a nice family would adopt her. Then she would proceed to kill the entire family only to have sex with her father figure. With that said I gave the Orphan a 5/10. However, the young actress who played Esther, Isabelle Fuhrman done an amazing job for a 12 year old. With a talent like hers, she will go far in the acting world. Based on her acting alone, my rating is 8/10, but that is just based on her portraying a character so physcopathic and twisted as Esther. I also have to mention the cute little girl who played Max, Aryana Engineer. Out of all the character she is the one you want to survive Esther's madness.

WARNING: SPOILERS IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE MOVIE DO NOT READ! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince had me sitting on the edge of my seat and is probably one of the best movies of this year. I don't even know where to begin, from the moment the movie started you were entranced, although the opening scenes kinda made me dizzy. The beginning to the middle had some memorable and funny scenes. Lavender Brown was psychotic and even though it was predictable, I liked the hospital scene when Ron whispers Hermiones name and not hers. The scene where Harry and Dumbledore go to the cave to get one of the Horcruxes was spooky and I will honestly say when that hand came out of the water, I jumped. Dumbledore's death has to be the saddest moment in the entire series of movies. When Snape yells "Adava Kadava," and the camera zoomed in to watch Dumbledore fall to his death, it left me and many others breathless and I struggled to hold back my tears. I don't know what else I can say in this review, but one thing is certain, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is sure not to disappoint and I know I want to go and see it again. 9/10

10 Things That Can Suprise You About Remakes.

Posted on Saturday, July 11, 2009 by LuciLikeWhoa

Some remakes can surprise you, others cant and some you just are unsure about. So when I heard about the 10 Things I Hate About You remake I was naturally pissed off. I mean come on every one loves the movie, right? I have just finished watching the first episode of the new series, 10 Things I Hate About You and I have to say it surprised me. The plots a little different from the movie, first of all Bianca and Kat move to a new town and are starting a new school and while Kat's character profile doesn't change...much, Bianca's does. Because they are starting at a new school Bianca isn't instally popular, so she has to climb the social ladder to be at its peak with Chastity. For a remake into a television show I would have preferred if they had changed all, well most of the characters names, because I don't know about you but I was constantly comparing the replacements to the originals. Which brings me to Ethan Peck who plays Patrick Verona, originally played by the late Heath Ledger. I have only seen one episode so I can't entirely compare the two but so far I have to say Peck is doing a decent job at portraying Patrick, however he is no Heath (and his voice sounds unnaturally deep). Side Note: 10 Things I Hate About You, is probably my favorite Heath Ledger movie. The T.V series has some familiar faces in it, for those who are fans of Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide; you will recognise Lindsey Shaw a.k.a Moze, who plays Kat. Nicholas Braun who played Zach in Sky High is now playing Cameron. Have you watched Camp Rock before? If that's a yes, you will remember Meaghan Jette Martin who played Tess Tyler who is now portraying Bianca and finally last but not least, Larry Miller who plays Dr Stratford, the girls father; the T.V show and movies he has been in is a very long list, but if you click his name it will take you straight to his IMDB profile. Overall the first episode was great and if the rest of the season is anything like the first episode, I think we may have a hit on our hands.
