SPOILERS! From the minute I picked it up I couldn't put it down. Blood Promise is the long awaited fourth book in Richelle Mead's brilliant series, Vampire Academy. We begin in Russia where Rose is still looking for her now Strigoi boyfriend Dimitri Belikov. Her mission is simple: find him and kill him. But Rose is struggling, having never been to Russia and only going off what Dimitri has told her about his life in Russia, she keeps arriving at dead ends. It isn't until she meets Sydney, a human who knows about the Vampire world, when Rose really makes a break through. Sydney is an Alchemist, a human who has been trained to assists the Guardians in covering up their Strigoi kills. After a few phone calls, Sydney agrees to take Rose to Dimitri's home town- Omsk. However, back home Lissa is struggling. She worries about Rose a lot and is not doing well in her one-on-one classes with Adrian. Although new comer, Avery Lazar helps her overcome these issues-through a haze of alcohol. After being attacked by Strigoi and evoking her weird ghost power, Rose wakes up in a house in Baia. But this isn't just any old house, this Olena Belikova's house- Dimitri's mother. Rose spends about a month with the Belikovs, she tells them of his heroic death and they come to the realisation the Rose and Dimitri were together. Yeva, Dimitri's grandmother takes Rose on an outing to the house of Mark and Oskana. Where Rose discovers that she and Lissa are not alone in the Shadow kissed world. Rose then decides to leave the Belikovs and go off and hunt for Dimitri, with the help of some rouge Strigoi hunters. She succeeds but forgets rule number 1: Don't Hesitate. So now she is locked up in a room that looks more like a hotel and the daily visits from the Strigoi Dimitri are not helping. After finally clearing her head Rose manages to escape. Though she doesn't get far, when she reaches the bridge-which happens to be my favorite scene- Dimitri is there to confront her, but when the time comes will she be able to kill him? Blood Promise is a fantastic follow up to Shadow Kiss and I can not wait for the release of Spirit Bound in 2010.
